Imagine that you and your son are traveling by ship to a vacation in the Bahamas. On the way, a great and dangerous storm arises and everyone is instructed to stay indoors for their safety. Disregarding the instruction, one of the passengers goes out for a look and is swept overboard by a wave. You and your son rush outside and can just barely see the woman about to drown. You aren't much of a swimmer, but your son is a very good one. So you ask him if he can go rescue her.
He says he thinks it’s too risky and he’d rather stay on the ship, but you tell him to go anyway. Being obedient, he gives you a hug and dives overboard. When he reaches the woman, she is panicking and she starts to drag him down. He swims back to the boat with her as best he can; and, just as she drags him under, you are able to reach her with your hand. You pull her to safety, but your son has been lost.
Do you rejoice at her rescue? Neither would I. Which is all the more reason to stand in awe of the sacrifice made by God to retrieve us from drowning in our sin.

I just wanted to comment on the "Teachers With Guns” discussion.
I turned on the station in the middle of your discussion on "Teachers with Guns". I thought it was "wacky Wednesday". I wasn't sure if you were serious or not -i'm still not sure.
As a person who has worked in the education industry (like you) for quit a while, I can't see your plan working. (No, my subject isn't English.. heehee)
I've worked in both traditional-public and charter-public schools and I can't see teachers,(as is)handling such an awesome responsibility. I can see accidental shootings, lawsuits.. etc.
We would literally have to turn our schools into some kind of military (or police)govern school. In addition to being a teacher, councilor, mother, minister, physicatrist etc-we would now have to become police officers; trained physically, and psychologically to become teachers.
It seems like the personality type that would be a teacher isn't the same personality type that would be a police or soldier.
How many people do you know that could:
• -Teach a specialized content(or all subjects) subject
• -be compassionate enough to deal with at-risk youth
• -be mentally capable of handling a classroom full of "other peoples" children (and their issues)
• -be physically fit enough to go through specialized training
This would have to be a VERY special breed of person....
We are having problems finding teachers now, without all the extras. LOL
I do have a suggestion....however..
Have a government-paid program for parents to:
• become teachers; and have parents teach their own children
• Pay the parents to teach their own children
• Provide material
• Provide space
The state would still govern the tests and what's being taught.
Parent who don’t want to teach their own child(ren) then their children would have to go to your Military-like ran school, where teachers wear guns. What do you think?
